The hotel itself is mearly OK - nothing wrong with it, Clean and has all the basic requirements. but a bit dated and some of the walls are paper thin. Some rooms are being renovated so I'd say that this will improve over time.

Location wise this place is great - near to the river, the skytrain and the main train station. It's a little hard to find and down a bit of a random lane, but once you follow a map it is well signposted.

What makes this place great is the rooftop bar - just across from the Hilton hotel so with a similar view I don't think you'll find something as good for anything close to the price (starts 400 bht (roughly!) for their most basic room which I stayed in and had no complaints about.

The food in the rooftop bar was also great (or at least breakfast was - didn't have a dinner here) and the atmosphere was nice and chilled.

Recommended for those who don't plan to spend much time in their rooms.

Room Tip: Better views the higher up you go! but also a higher price.

I opted for a cheap fan room with private bathroom, cold water for 450 THB, plenty of light but no view of the river. No real drama as the view from the restaurant on the roof, River Vibe is awesome.
It's maybe a 10 minute walk from Hualompong , the central railway station, and almost on the river. You can get a boat up and down the river, walk to China town or just enjoy the view. The Thai food on the roof is very good, but don't expect the western food to be more than passable. If you're heading to Cambodia and want a similar feel and excellent western food as well as great Khmer food and an awesome view of the ocean and islands check out Chil-axn

I stayed 17 nights @ the Riverview in January 2012 and have no complaints at all. On the contrary. It was my first visit to Bangkok and I was glad I ended up at this hotel (on advise of the Rough Guide) and not on Khao San Road, where I spent exactly 30 minutes. What a mess! Chinatown, the neighbourhood of the Riverview, is much more real. And once you get to know it a little, you'll see that with the public transport of Bangkok, it's pretty close to a lot of the major attractions. The public transport of Bangkok IS a major attraction, by the way.

I had a very nice Urban Chique room (636) on the sixth floor with a rather spectacular view over the city, a walk-in shower for washing of BKK-smog and heat, table and seats for some serious reading-sessions, two good beds (only one needed), fridge, television (not needed with a view like that),... It seemed a bit strange to spend nights in such a room after eight monts of backpacking. Can I really afford this?

The best part of the hotel is, like many people on this site noticed, the Rivervibe Bar/Restaurant. The first time you get up there, is breathtaking. And the next times too. The service is attentive and friendly, the food is super, the beers cold. It's an excellent place to chill after a hot day in the city.

In January, the people of the hotel were in the process of renovating the older rooms. They worked there way down and only 1.5 floors are left. Make sure you get one of the newer rooms when you make a reservation. And I think it is better to make one, because the way the things are going, this place will be fully booked all year round. An enormous value for your money!!!

To all the people who complain about the floods. Be ashamed.

Cheers to the people of the Riverview!
